USDA Food Program
CCCC provides a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) meal program at all of its centers. Older children are served breakfast at 9 a.m., lunch at 12 noon, and a snack at 3 p.m. Older children and their teachers eat "family style." The children serve themselves, pour their own milk, and clear their dishes from the table. This is an important learning process for children and CCCC encourages parents to help their children use these skills at home.
Meals for older children consist of foods from the major food groups each day. We serve chicken, turkey, fish, and small amounts of beef. We also serve fresh, canned, and frozen fruits and vegetables and whole-grain foods. The use of sweeteners and salt is kept to a minimum. Alternate foods can be substituted for children on special diets due to medical needs or family preferences. A current two-week meal schedule is posted in the classrooms and on the bulletin board of each center.
Infants follow their own feeding schedules. CCCC will provide USDA-approved iron-fortified formula for infants up to 12 months or parents may provide breast milk or a different formula of their choosing.
CCCC receives funds from USDA through the Oregon Department of Education to subsidize the meal program for children from low-income families.
